In 2024 a non profit was established for the purpose of planting trees on Morris Street in the Town of La Conner.  We have initiated fund raising and are now in a position to request bids for the purchase of trees, tree planting supplies, and the soil preparation and planting of trees.  Phase one of our plan will involve 16 trees and on advice of an arborist will be planted in Fall of 2025. 

The bid can be broken into two parts. First the actual purchase of the tree and second the planting of the tree. 

We request the bid be for a single tree which will give a baseline and the understanding that the total number of trees planted will need to be in alignment with our fund raising efforts. 

Trees planted along Morris Street In La Conner will need to be coordinated with the Town of La Conner maintenance supervisor to address traffic interruptions, utility location, and parking. 

The Non-profit A Tree on Morris Street has permission from the La Conner City  Council and the Mayor’s office to plan and implement the tree planting but is not directly affiliated with any Washington State or federal government agencies, thus, bids are under no obligation to meet prevailing wage requirements. 

We are looking for three specific species of tree. 

Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak 

Musachino Zelkova 

Parrotia Golden Bell Tower 

 

The planting Bid should accommodate the following requirements. 

Provide any equipment or labor to excavate and refill the planting site . 

Provide soil for the new tree. 

A root barrier lining the hole. 

Transport of the tree to the planting site (or have tree provider provide transport) 

Provide any staking and lines  to support the tree after planting or provide alternative method  of support

A tree canteen to drip water the new tree.  

Contractors which can both provide and plant trees will be given preferential consideration.  Contractors which can show licensing and bonding and prior experience will also receive preferential consideration.  Contracts will be paid within three business days of completion of work by check issued from “A Tree on Morris Street, LLC”
